Adelaide Ice Magic was founded by Bernadette Mercurio in 1992 and was originally called "Southern Vale Icees". The team was based at the old Lonsdale ice skating rink but 'migrated' to the newly built Noarlunga Ice Sports Centre in 2001.
The team made its debut in 1994 at the National Championships in Sydney but for the next four years there was no Novice team as they had moved up to Junior in 1995 under the name of "Adelaide Avalanche".
“Adelaide Avalanche” Junior team took out SA first ever precision medal at the Australian Championships in 1998 in Melbourne, 3rd place. Then in 1999 it was “Adelaide Avalanches” turn to take on the Gold medal in the Australian Championships in 1999 in Adelaide and then again in 2000 in Perth, where they were nominated to take the dream to 2001 World Cup Challenge for Juniors in Croatia where they place 19th in the World. When arrived back from worlds the team changed there name to “Allegra”.
Finally in 1998, a new Novice team was being formed by Bernadette & Teresa and was called the "Adelaide Dream Team" & in 1999 in made début at the Australian Championships and won the silver medal in Adelaide. In 2000, they won the silver medal again in Perth, and silver in Sydney in 2001. Then in 2002 they finally won the gold medal in Queensland. In 2003 the "Adelaide Dream Team" again changed their name to "Adelaide Ice Magic" and was reformed with the coach "Teresa Marsland/Sinclair" the new name had taken effect on the team as they won the Gold medal again in Queensland and Gold again in Sydney in 2004.
This year the team has taken a dramatic turn after 12 years, with all the usual ups and downs plus training on a small ice rink "Adelaide Ice Magic", finally made it on the international scene as the first ever Novice international team to represent Australia, but not only with a great skate but an amazing result coming 9th in 2005 ISU French Cup, Rouen-France & 3rd in 2005 ISU Spring Cup, Milan-Italy. This is the First Ever Medal for an Australian Synchronized Skating Novice Team in an ISU Event.
In 2005 after coming back from International competitions the team wanted new challenges and decided to move up to Junior but keeping the "Adelaide Ice Magic" name. While making another Novice team from our Aussie Skate Team “Noarlunga Starlight’s” and calling the team “Adelaide Icicle Magic” . The Nationals in Perth became a big success as now "Adelaide Ice Magic" won in Junior as well as Novice & Adult and was picked again for International Competition at the "2006 World Cup Challenge for Juniors" in Helsinki, Finland this is the biggest event for Junior Synchronized skating. The team done an excellent job and came 17th in the Short & 18th Overall only 2pts behind the 13th Team.
2006 was a great year again for achievements, with the World Cup Challenge in Finland to start the year and then moving onto Senior with only 4mths of training before nationals, we had a big goal to achieve. Our team skated fantastic in both short and long at the Australian Championships in Brisbane but only to come home with bronze, but all was happy as it was our first step up to Senior and was a big leap. The Novice team “Adelaide Icicle Magic” once again took out the title winning 5 years running and the Adult team “Enve” also took out the title once again.
2007 became another huge leap for “Adelaide Ice Magic” going into their second year in the Senior division the team had many challenges but came out with success to win their second medal, Silver, at the Australian Championships in Newcastle. Our club also had another new team with skaters coming up from the Aussie skate team and was called “Adelaide Ice Mystique” Junior and came 2nd in the Short program and 4th overall. The Novice again was a crowd pleaser but only winning the bronze.
2008 Adelaide Icicle Magic Novice Team headed off to Berlin, Germany for the Berlin Cup and the Prague Cup, Prague, Czech Republic. This was the first all South Australian Team from Noarlunga and we were very proud to see this happen. Was a shame though the Senior team could not go due to financial situations. Teams had a wonderful time with the other teams at practices swapping email address and Australian things! Team ended up 4th in Berlin and 5th in Prague. Was a great competition and many International Coaches, Judges and Managers of team were happy to see us from Australian and was so taken back on the quality our skaters were.
2008 Nationals was held in lovely Brisbane our teams had the best ever Nationals with everyone so relaxed and taking in the experiences of overseas to Nationals was excellent. Senior Team and the Novice Team came home with the silver but was a very close competition with only 1 point in it to be the winners!
2009 ………where will it lead us....
We are proud of Adelaide Ice Magic's Achievements and we are keeping it's magic to grow ever so more
